Solo exhibition project “Ekaterina Vorona. The Music of Water”
Art Centre EXPOSED and Smirnoff.gallery hold a solo exhibition project “Ekaterina Vorona. The Music of Water”. Exhibition of paintings previously successfully shown at the State Russian Museum will be presented for the first time in Moscow. A catalogue of Ekaterina’s works published within the framework of the project will be presented at the exhibition in the Art Centre EXPOSED.
Over 50 paintings Ekaterina Vorona are united by the main subject of the artist’s work – the element of water. The exhibition introduces the viewer to the artistic search for spectacular ways to depict water in its eternal movement, its various states, each time differently interpreted by the author. The life-giving element, the beginning of life is shown in bright colour varieties: sea transparency and dark currents depicting flowing shapes depicting skeletons; whimsical fountains jets; water running in the river or in the channel under the monumental bridges; boiling waterfalls, winter turning in winter into ice crystals; mysterious silence of ponds and the whirlpool of ocean waves. All this are canvases by Ekaterina Vorona.
It is obvious that the works have been strongly influenced by one of the most abstract forms of art – music. “Improvisation” (2014), «Lento con gran espressione» (2014); “The Music of the Evening” (2015). Colour, as well as the music tonality, is deeply symbolic for the artist. In large canvases, close to the metaphysical symbolism, Vorona uses a rare and difficult technique: pastel on canvas.
The softness of the lines, the play of tones, multiple layers and subtlety of images, the momentary lights in the picture – all these are special features of pastel. The artist interprets the macrocosm enclosed in every drop, the infinite number of images, and refraction of all usual things as the analogy between water and the mental world.
Ekaterina Vorona: “In this project I tried to pull away from figurative work, which, of course does exist in my works. I am wondering how the destiny of the city and the water that surrounds it are intertwined. But first of all, I would like to show only the life of water, the combination of water and light, the love between water and light, the play of water and light, and how the streams move toward the light. “
Art historian Alexander Borovsky said: “With regard to these works of Katerina: Do not try to find here the detailed literary analogues … Suffice it to note: in the optics of the artist exists a symbolic piece of glass – something specific “germinating”myth and poetry, and vice versa.
Ekaterina Vorona –is the Honorary Member (Academician) of the Russian Academy of Arts, a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, Professional Union of Artists and the International Art Fund.
